Is Pope John Paul II in Hell?

Angelica Zambrano is an Ecuadorian evangelist who has visited heaven and hell after prolonged periods of prayer and fasting. During one of her visits to hell, Zambrano saw the late Pope John Paul II
Then the Lord took me to place where there was a very well-known man. Before now, I used to live as a double minded young Christian girl. I used to think that any person that died would go to Heaven; that those who celebrated mass, would also go to heaven, but I was wrong. When Pope John Paul II died, my friends and relatives would tell me that he had gone to heaven. All the news on TV, on Extra and many other places would say, "Pope John Paul II has died, may he rest in peace. He is now rejoicing with the Lord and his angels in heaven" and I believed all of it. But I was only fooling myself, because I saw him in Hell, being tormented by flames. I looked at his face, it was John Paul II! The Lord said to me, "Look, Daughter, that man that you see there, is Pope John Paul II. He is here in this place; he is being tormented because he did not repent."

But I asked, "Lord, why is he here? He used to preach at church." Jesus replied, "Daughter, no fornicator, no idolater, no one who is greedy and no liar will inherit My Kingdom."(Eph. 5:5) I replied, "Yes, I know that is true, but I want to know why he is here, because he used to preach to multitudes of people!" And Jesus responded, "Yes, Daughter, he may have said many things, but he would never speak the truth as it is. He never said the truth and they know the truth and although he knew the truth, he preferred money over preaching about salvation. He would not offer reality; would not say that hell is real and that heaven also exists; Daughter, now he is here in this place."

When I looked at this man, he had a large serpent with needles, wrapped around his throat, and he would try to take it off. I pleaded with Jesus, "Lord, help him!" The man would scream, "Help me, Lord; have mercy on me; take me out of this place; forgive me! I repent, Lord; I want to return to Earth, I want to go back to Earth to repent." The Lord observed him and said to him, "You very well knew. You knew very well that this place was real...It's too late; there is no other opportunity for you."

The Lord said, "Look, Daughter, I am going to show you the life of this man." Jesus showed me a huge screen on which I could observe how this man offered mass many times to the multitudes. And how the people who were there were so idolatrous. Jesus said, "Look, Daughter, there are many idolaters in this place. Idolatry will not save, Daughter. I am the only One who saves, and outside of Me, no one saves. I love the sinner, but I hate sin, Daughter. Go and tell humanity that I love them and that they need to come to Me."

As the Lord was speaking, I began to see how this man received multitudes of coins and bills; money, all of which he would keep. He had so much money. I saw images of this man seated on a throne, but I was also able to see beyond that. While it's true that these people do not get married, I can assure you, I'm not making this up, the Lord showed it to me, those people do sleep with nuns; with many women there!

The Lord showed me these people living in fornication, and the Word says that no fornicator will inherit His Kingdom. As I was watching all of this, the Lord told me, "Look Daughter, all of this which I am showing you is what goes on, what he lived and what keeps on happening among many people, among many priests and popes existing." Then he told me, "Daughter, go and tell humanity that it's time to turn to Me."

Could Angelica Zambrano's testimony be true?

The Lord Jesus Christ said: "By their fruit you will recognize them." (Matthew 7:16a; NIV).

According to an article by Michael Hoffman, the late Pope John Paul II was guilty of the following during his lifetime:
  • Pope John Paul II reverently kissed a copy of Islam's Koran, and who told the Voodoo priests of Benin in Africa that their Satanic traditions contain "seeds of the Word," after which the barbaric practice of Voodoo in that blighted land nearly doubled. (see pictures below)
  • John Paul II permitted the Tibetan Buddhists to place a statue of their idol on the altar of the Church of Assisi and this pope prayed with them to their "god(s)."
  • Pope John Paul II protected serial child-molestation facilitators such as Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado, Bishop Skylstad, Cardinal Law and Cardinal Mahony and thousands of others like them. Many of the most unconscionable waves of horrendous victimization of defenseless children occurred on his watch. Pope John Paul II permitted these molestations to be shrouded in secrecy. He granted safe haven to fugitive molestation facilitators such as the notorious Cardinal Bernard Law who was wanted in Boston by the authorities and rewarded by Pope John Paul with being named archpriest of a prominent basilica in Rome.

On the issue of priests sleeping with nuns, this also had been confirmed by ex-nun Sister Charloette Keckler, in her testimony:
One regular monthly event we always dreaded was the visit of the father confessor to the convent. Each time it was a different priest but they were all basically the same. I hated going and always attempted to get in the back row. I lived in a convent so long that I would never trust any priest. All of the ones I met were rotten and vile. The ordeal of confession sometimes took all day. One by one the nuns had to file in to the room where the priest was waiting. Never did I see a priest in the convent who had not been drinking.
The room was bare except for the inevitable statue of the Virgin Mary. The priest perched in a straight-backed chair and the nun must come in and kneel before him. If she got out without being defiled and forced into some unspeakable depravity she was fortunate. No one ever interrupted the priest and the woman, no matter what transpired. One after another the nuns would enter and leave the room.

At other times it was not unusual for the Mother Superior to usher in a drunken priest who would pick out a nun and take her to a cell with him for more liquor and sex. The Mother Superior was a hard and carnal woman who had borne numbers of illegitimate children of priests and usually she drank with the visitors. The priest was well fed, healthy, and strong and lived a relatively easy life; therefore a poor, weakened nun was no match for him, to fight him off. Because she was helpless, he did whatever he pleased and violated her any way he chose. There is no one to defend or help her and none to even care about her being forced into harlotry. Because Mother Superior locked the cell there was no way to escape.

Often I have nursed these little nuns after they had been brutalized and shamefully abused. Only the priest's imagination limited the kind of indignities he could inflict on his victim. I saw and experienced all kinds of sickening evidences of the wildest kinds of lust being exercised in the convents. The body of the nun often looked as if it were something to be thrown out to the hogs, covered with dozens of bruises and other marks. The people who say I exaggerate are either the priests, trying to squelch the truth, or those who have never been inside the convents. Because I was there, I know the truth, which is monstrous and shocking!

Can you imagine the terrible position of the nun confronted by the priest? If she displeased or refused him, he would complain to the Mother Superior. Putting their two evil minds together they would come up with things to do to that nun which normal minds would never imagine. In a day or two after she resisted the priest, Mother Superior would call her aside to do penance again. There was no choice and with sinking heart she would be led down into the dungeons where the awful reprisal dreamed up by the priest and Mother Superior would be executed.

Some mornings when we were preparing to go to work Mother Superior would call out ten or fifteen of us. We were trembling and apprehensive, never knowing what was coming. We were never allowed to question; only obey, like mindless machines. Would we be punished, go to the penance chambers or what? Then she abruptly would give the order for us to line up and remove all our clothes. With sinking hearts we did as we were told. We knew from experience what was coming next.

Half starved and marked with many scars, with shaved heads, we must have been a sorry sight. Because there are absolutely no mirrors allowed in a convent, I had no idea what I looked like for all the years of my incarceration. When I would catch scant, forbidden glances at others with their gaunt, drawn faces, sunken eyes, teeth falling out, and skeletal starved bodies, I could hardly imagine that I too looked like this.

On one occasion after we were stripped, three drunken, leering Catholic priests lurched in and eyed the nude girls lustfully and each chose a partner to go to a cell with him. Remember, these are cloistered convents and the priest is free to do anything he pleases behind the cloak of rotten religion. This same wicked whoremonger will return to his flock to say mass and hear confessions of people he dupes into believing they can be absolved from their sins. Full of fornication, perversion and vice, he acts as their god!

    Stubborn Unbelievers Are in Hell

Mary Katherine Baxter was an ordinary housewife until Jesus Christ appeared to her on 40 consecutive nights and took Mary on a tour of Hell and Heaven.  She walked, with Jesus, through the horrors of hell and talked with many people.  Jesus showed her what happens to souls when they die and what happens to the unbelievers. Here are excerpts from Mary Baxter’s book A Divine Revelation of Hell:

A horrible odor filled the air. Jesus said to me, "In the left leg of Hell are many pits. This tunnel branches off into other parts of hell, but we will spend some time in the left leg first. These things you are about to see will always be with you. The world must know about the reality of Hell. Many sinners and even some of My people do not believe that Hell is real. You have been chosen by Me to reveal these truths to them. Everything I will show you about Hell and all the other things I will show you are true."
Jesus had shown Himself to me in the form of a bright light, brighter than the sun. The form of a man was in the center of that light. Sometimes I saw Jesus as a man, but at other times He was in the form of a spirit.

He spoke again, "Child, when I speak, the Father has spoken. The Father and I are one. Remember to love above all else and to forgive one another. Come now, follow Me."

As we walked, evil spirits fled from the presence of the Lord. "O God, O God," I cried. "What is next?"

As I said previously, I had all my senses in Hell. All those in Hell have all their senses. Mine were working now in full force. Fear was on every side, and inexpressible dangers lurked everywhere. Each step I took was more horrible than the one before.

There were doorways about the size of small windows, opening and shutting very fast at the top of the tunnel. Screams filled the air as many evil creatures flew by us, up and out of the gateways of Hell. Soon we were at the end of the tunnel. I was trembling with fright because of the danger and fear around us.

I was so thankful for the protection of Jesus. I thank God for His almighty power to protect us, even in the pits of Hell. Even with that protecting shield, I kept thinking, not my will, Father, but Yours be done.

I looked at my body. For the first time I noticed that I was in a spirit form, and my form was in the shape of myself. I wondered what was next.

Jesus and I stepped from the tunnel onto a path with wide swaths of land on each side of it. There were pits of fire everywhere as far as the eye could see. The pits were four feet across and three feet deep and shaped like a bowl. Jesus said, "There are many pits like this in the left leg of Hell. Come, I will show you some of them."

I stood beside Jesus on the path and looked into one of the pits. Brimstone was embedded in the side of the pit and glowed red like hot coals of fire. In the center of the pit was a lost soul who had died and gone to Hell. Fire began at the bottom of the pit, swept upward and clothed the lost soul in flames. In a moment the fire would die down to embers, then with a rushing sound would sweep back over the tormented soul in the pit.

I looked and saw that the lost soul in the pit was caged inside a skeleton form. "My Lord," I cried at the sight, "Can't you let them out?" How awful was the sight! I thought, this could be me. I said, "Lord, how sad it is to see and know that a living soul is in there."

I heard a cry from the center of the first pit. I saw a soul in the form of a skeleton, crying, "Jesus, have mercy!"

"O, Lord!" I said. It was the voice of a woman. I looked at her and wanted to pull her out of the fire. The sight of her broke my heart.

The skeleton form of a woman with a dirty-grey mist inside was talking to Jesus. In shock, I listened to her. Decayed flesh hung by shreds from her bones, and, as it burned, it fell off into the bottom of the pit. Where her eyes had once been were now only empty sockets. She had no hair.

The fire started at her feet in small flames and grew as it climbed up and over her body. The woman seemed to be constantly burning, even when the flames were only embers. From deep down inside her came cries and groans of despair, "Lord, Lord, I want out of here!"

She kept reaching out to Jesus. I looked at Jesus, and there was great sorrow on His face. Jesus said to me, "My child, you are here with Me to let the world know that sin results in death, that Hell is real.

I looked at the woman again, and worms were crawling out of the bones of her skeleton. They were not harmed by the fire. Jesus said, "She knows and feels those worms inside."

"God, have mercy!" I cried as the fire reached its peak and the horrible burning started all over again. Great cries and deep sobs shook the form of this woman-soul. She was lost. There was no way out. "Jesus, why is she here?" I said in a small voice, for I was very scared.

    Jesus said, "Come."

The path we were on was a circuitous one, twisting in and out between these pits of fire as far as I could see. The cries of the living dead, mixed with moans and hideous screams, came to my ears from all directions. There were no quiet times in Hell. The smell of dead and decaying flesh hung thickly in the air.

We came to the next pit. Inside this pit, which was the same size as the other one, was another skeleton form. A man's voice cried from the pit, saying, "Lord, have mercy on me!" Only when they spoke could I tell whether the soul was a man or woman.

Great wailing sobs came from this man. "I'm so sorry, Jesus. Forgive me. Take me out of here. I have been in this place of torment for years. I beg You, let me out!" Great sobs shook his skeletal frame as he begged, "Please, Jesus, let me out!" I looked at Jesus and saw that He too was crying.

"Lord Jesus," the man cried out from the burning pit, "haven't I suffered enough for my sins? It has been forty years since my death."

Jesus said, "It is written, 'The just shall live by faith!' All mockers and unbelievers shall have their part in the lake of fire. You would not believe the truth. Many times My people were sent to you to show you the way, but you would not listen to them. You laughed at them and refused the gospel. Even though I died on a cross for you, you mocked Me and would not repent of your sins. My Father gave you many opportunities to be saved. If only you had listened!" Jesus wept.

"I know, Lord, I know!" the man cried. "But I repent now."

"It is too late," said Jesus. "Judgment is set."

The man continued, "Lord, some of my people are coming here, for they also will not repent. Please, Lord, let me go tell them that they must repent of their sins while they are still on earth. I do not want them to come here."

Jesus said, "They have preachers, teachers and elders, all ministering the gospel. They will tell them. They also have the advantages of the modern communications systems and many other ways to learn of Me. I sent workers to them that they might believe and be saved. If they will not believe when they hear the gospel, neither will they be persuaded though one rises from the dead."

At this, the man became very angry and began to curse. Evil, blasphemous words came from him. I looked on in horror as the flames rose up and his dead, decaying flesh began to burn and fall off. Inside this dead shell of a man, I saw his soul. It looked like a dirty-gray mist, and it filled the inside of his skeleton.

I turned to Jesus and cried, "Lord, how horrible!"

Jesus said, "Hell is real; the judgment is real. I love them so, My child. This is only the beginning of the frightful things I have to show you. There is much more to come. Tell the world for Me that Hell is real, that men and women must repent of their sins. Come, follow Me. We must go on."

In the next pit was a very small-framed woman who looked to be about eighty years old. I can't say how I knew her age, but I did. The skin was removed from her bones by the continual flame, and only the bones remained with a dirty-mist soul inside. I watched as the fire burned her. Soon there were only the bones and the worms crawling inside, which the fire could not burn.

"Lord, how terrible!" I cried. "I don't know if I can go on, for this is awful beyond belief." As far as my eyes could see, souls were burning in pits of fire.

"My child, this is why you are here," Jesus answered. "You must know and tell the truth about Hell. Heaven is real! Hell is real! Come, we must go on."

I looked back at the woman. Her cries were so sad. As I watched her, she put her bony hands together, as if in prayer. I couldn't help crying. I was in a spirit form, and I was crying. I knew that people in Hell felt all these things, too.

Jesus knew my thoughts. "Yes, child," He said, "they do. When people come here, they have the same feelings and thoughts as when they were on earth. They remember their families and friends and all the times they had a chance to repent but refused to do so. Memory is always with them. If only they had believed the gospel and repented before it was too late."

I looked at the old woman once again, and this time I noticed that she had only one leg, and there seemed to be holes drilled in her hip bones. "What are these, Jesus?" I asked.

He said, "Child, while she was on earth, she had cancer and was in much pain. Surgery was done to save her life. She lay a bitter old woman for many years. Many of My people came to pray for her and to tell her I could heal her. She said, 'God did this to me,' and she would not repent and believe the gospel. She even knew Me once, but in time she came to hate Me. She said she did not need God and did not want Me to heal her. Yet I pleaded with her, still wanting to help her, wanting to heal and to bless her. She turned her back on Me and cursed Me. She said she did not want Me. My spirit pleaded with her. Even after she had turned her back on Me, I still tried to draw her by My spirit, but she would not listen. At last she died and came here."

The old woman cried out to Jesus, "Lord Jesus, please forgive me now. I'm sorry that I didn't repent while I was on earth." With great sobs she cried out to Jesus, "If only I had repented before it was too late! Lord, help me out of here. I will serve You. I will be good. Haven't I suffered enough? Why did I wait until too late? Oh, why did I wait until Your Spirit quit striving with me?"

Jesus said to her, "You had chance after chance to repent and serve Me." Sadness was written all over Jesus' face as we walked away.

As I watched the old woman cry, I asked, "Lord, what is next?"

I could feel fear all around. Sorrow, cries of pain and an atmosphere of death were everywhere. Jesus and I walked in grief and pity to the next pit. Only by His strength could I go on. For a great distance I could still hear the old woman's cries of repentance and pleading for forgiveness. If only there was something I could do to help her, I thought. Sinner, please don't wait until God's Spirit quits striving with you.

In the next pit was a woman on her knees, as if looking for something. Her skeletal form also was full of holes. Her bones were showing through, and her torn dress was on fire. Her head was bald, and there were only holes where her eyes and nose were supposed to be. A small fire was burning around her feet where she was kneeling, and she clawed the sides of the brimstone pit. The fire clung to her hands, and dead flesh kept falling off as she dug.

Tremendous sobs shook her. "O Lord, O Lord," she cried, "I want out." As we watched, she finally got to the top of the pit with her feet. I thought she was going to get out when a large demon with great wings that seemed to be broken at the top and hung down his sides ran to her. His color was brownish black, and he had hair all over his large form. His eyes were set far back into his head, and he was about the size of a large grizzly bear. The demon rushed up to the woman and pushed her very hard backward into the pit and fire. I watched in horror as she fell. I felt so sorry for her. I wanted to take her into my arms and hold her, to ask God to heal her and take her out of there.

Jesus knew my thoughts and said, "My child, judgment has been set. God has spoken. Even when she was a child, I called and called her to repent and to serve Me. When she was sixteen years old, I came to her and said, 'I love you. Give your life to Me, and come follow Me, for I have called you for a special purpose: I called all her life, but she would not listen. She said, 'Someday I will serve You. I have no time for You now. No time, no time, I have my life of fun. No time, no time to serve You, Jesus. Tomorrow I will.' Tomorrow never came, for she waited too long."

The woman cried out to Jesus, "My soul is truly in torment. There is no way out. I know that I wanted the world instead of You, Lord. I wanted riches, fame and fortune, and I got it. I could buy anything I wanted; I was my own boss. I was the prettiest, best-dressed woman of my time. And I had riches, fame and fortune, but I found I could not take them with me in death. O Lord, Hell is horrible. I have no rest day or night. I am always in pain and torment. Help me, Lord," she cried.

The woman looked up at Jesus so longingly and said, "My sweet Lord, if only I had listened to you! I will regret that forever. I planned to serve You someday-when I got ready. I thought You would always be there for me. But how wrong I was! I was one of the most sought-after women of my time for my beauty. I knew God was calling me to repent. All my life He drew me with cords of love, and I thought I could use God like I used everyone else. He would always be there. Oh yes, I used God! He would try so hard to get me to serve Him, while all the time I thought I didn't need Him. Oh, how wrong I was! For satan began to use me, and I began to serve satan more and more. At the last I loved him more than God. I loved to sin and would not turn to God. satan used my beauty and my money, and all my thoughts turned to how much power he would give me. Even then, God continued to draw me. But I thought, I have tomorrow or the next day. Then one day while riding in a car, my driver ran into a house, and I was killed. Lord, please let me out." As she spoke her bony hands and arms reached out to Jesus while the flames continued to burn her.

Jesus said, "The judgment is set."

Tears fell down His cheeks as we moved to the next pit. I was crying inside about the horrors of Hell. "Dear Lord," I cried, "the torment is too real. When a soul comes here, there is no hope, no life, no love. Hell is too real." No way out, I thought. She must burn forever in these flames.

"Time is running out," Jesus said. "We will come back tomorrow."

Friend, if you are living in sin, please repent. If you have been born again and have turned your back on God, repent and turn back to Him now. Live good and stand for truth. Wake up before it is too late, and you can spend forever with the Lord in heaven.

Jesus spoke again, "Hell has a body (like a human form) lying on her back in the center of the earth. Hell is shaped like a human body- very large and with many chambers of torment. Remember to tell the people of earth that Hell is real. Millions of lost souls are here, and more are coming every day. On the Great Judgment Day, death and Hell will be cast into the lake of fire; that will be the second death."

Woman Who Loved Money in Hell

Upon an attempted suicide, John Bunyan was shown this vision of spiritual realms. Bunyan (1628-1688), an English author and preacher imprisoned for his faith, is best known for his fictional work, The Pilgrim's Progress. However, the excerpts quoted below, from Visions of Heaven and Hell, is NON-FICTION.

In hell, Bunyan saw a woman having flaming sulphur forced down her throat by a tormenting spirit. The spirit did so with such horrible cruelty that Bunyan could not help but say to it: “Why do you delight in the tormenting of that cursed wretch that you perpetually pour that flaming, infernal liquor down her throat?” The dialogue that ensued is as follows:
The fiend replied, "This is nothing more than just retribution. This woman in her life time was such a sordid wretch that though she had gold enough, she could never be satisfied and therefore I pour it down her throat. She didn't care who she ruined and undid so that she could get their gold. And when she had amassed a great treasure than ever she could spend, her love of money would not allow her spend it except to supply herself with the common necessities of life. She often had an empty stomach, although her bags were full, or else she filled her stomach at another's expense. And as for her clothes, they either never grew old or they were always patched until it was hard to say which piece was on originally. She had no house because she didn't want to be taxed; nor did she keep her treasure in her hands because she feared she would be robbed; nor would she let it out on bonds and mortgages out of fear of being cheated. Although she cheated all that she could, and she herself was such a great cheat that she cheated her own body of food and her own soul of mercy. Since gold was her god on Earth, is it not just that she should have her belly full of it in hell?"

When her tormentor was done speaking, I asked her whether what he said was true or not. To this she answered, "No. Because if what my tormentor told you was true, I would be satisfied. But, he tells you that it is gold that he pours down my throat; but he is a lying devil and speaks falsely. If it was gold I would never complain. But he abuses me, and instead of gold he only gives me the horrible, stinking sulphur."
I could not forbear telling my conductor I was amazed to hear a wretch in hell itself so to dote upon her riches and that too, while in the tormentor's hands. "This may," said he, "convince you it is sin that is the greatest of all evils; and where love of that prevails - the love of gold (to which this cursed creature is given up) is a more fatal punishment than that which the apostate spirits here inflict on her."
Bunyan’s essay can be read online, in the website below:

A Prominent Woman Makes an Unsuccessful Attempt to Escape Hell

Harold Armstrong Baker (1881–1971) was an American Pentecostal missionary to China from 1919 to 1950, during which he pioneered the Adullam Rescue Mission for street children in Yunnan Province, China, together with his wife, Josephine. The children in the home, mostly boys aged from six to eighteen, began to have spiritual experiences, claiming to have seen heaven through a series of visions. These visions were recounted in Baker's book Visions Beyond the Veil.

Baker was also the author of the book Plains of Glory and Gloom, and in it he deals with the question of life beyond the grave. To that end, he discusses divine revelations that people have received, and the excerpts of Baker’s report is below:

The true church from days of old warned of hell because from time to time some of its members were taken by angels to visit it.

The Bible also tells of hell; because its writers, inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote of realities. The pagan from pre-historic times, the church from its earliest days, the Bible of the ancients in describing the horrors of hell in varying degrees according to the depths of sin and principle of judgment for sins committed.

The hell of the past is the unchanged hell of the present. As I have written in my former book, Visions Beyond the Veil, the Lord so poured out the Holy Spirit on the children of our Chinese orphanage and gave such repeated and unmistakable God-sent visions of hell that I could as easily doubt my own existence as revealed in the Bible and seen by these present-day witnesses. The children saw their acquaintances in hell. That is surely up-to-date news.

Many similar reports recently given corroborate the same facts. For instance, when Miss D lay in a trance from which she could not be wakened for seven days, she visited not only heaven, but also hell. While in the latter place she met Miss W, who had died during the time of Miss D’s trance. As Miss D was leaving that awful place she saw Mr. C also enter the infernal region. He, too, had suddenly died. Not even the friends watching by Miss D’s side had heard of the death of this man so clearly seen.

Miss D was next conducted to a place which she described in the most terrifying language and declared that the horrible shrieks of lost spirits still seemed to sound in her ears. As she approached the burning pit, a tremendous effort was made to draw her into it; but she felt herself safe under the protection of her guardian angel. She recognized many in the place of torment whom she had known on earth, some having been considered Christians. There were princes and peasants, rich and poor, learned and unlearned writhing together in a dreadful unquenchable fire where all earthly distinctions and titles were forever at an end. Among them she beheld a Miss W, who had occupied a prominent station in society, but had died during the trance of Miss D. She said that when Miss W saw her approach her shrieks were appalling beyond the power of language to describe and that she made a desperate, but unsuccessful attempt to escape.

“Punishment of lost souls she represented as symbolizing the respective sins which had occasioned their condemnation. Miss W, for instance, was condemned for her love of money, which I had every reason to believe was her besetting sin; and she seemed to be robed in a garment of gold, all on fire. Mr. O, whom she saw, was lost through intemperance; he appeared to be punished by devils administering to him some boiling liquid. She said there was no sympathy amongst these unhappy spirits, but that unmixed hatred in all its frightful forms prevailed in every part of the fiery regions.

“She beheld parents and children, husbands and wives, and those who had been companions in sin, exhibiting every mark of deep hatred to each other’s society, and heard them in fiendish accents upbraiding and bitterly cursing one another. She saw nothing in hell but misery and despair, and heard nothing there but the most discordant sounds, accompanied with weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth. Whilst she gazed upon the revolting scene, many souls arrived from earth, and were greedily seized by innumerable devils of monstrous shape amidst horrid shouts of hellish triumph.

“This fearful view of the state of the lost agrees with the testimony of S.T., whose case is on record in Mr. Wesley’s Journal whom he knew on earth. Among them was a former school mate of whose death this witness had not heard. If this man was not seeing realities, how did he see in hell these deceased people? He tells his own story thus:

“My guide said, ‘Look.’ As I looked, oh, horror of horrors! There was an ocean of fire with many people in it, a few of whom I knew. As far as I could see there was fire and people. The fire I am accustomed to seeing does not look so horrible, or so hot, as that awful fire did. It was so hot that there was a vapor looking a little like steam everywhere. Oh, the misery and suffering! Words utterly fail me to give an idea of what I saw and heard.

“Some of the people were crying, some groaning the most pitiful groans and begging for water, water! Some were pulling their hair; some gnashing with their teeth; some biting their hands and arms; such a sight is impossible for me to describe. One I knew was a young man, formerly a schoolmate of mine. His mother was my Sunday school teacher, and we all thought her to be a Christian. He raised up and said, ‘Mama is here, too.’ At that time I did not know that either this boy or his mother was dead. I saw others who died as they had lived, in deep sin. One was a woman who cursed, but when she saw it did no good she groaned and said, ‘That used to ease my temper, but it doesn’t any more.’ Another standing near remarked, ‘Well, we had our own choice.’

“Then my guide said to me, ‘Do you want to go further?’ ‘No’, I replied; ‘never again do I want to see this place of torment.’ It makes me shudder now to think of that place of misery and suffering called hell. No one can possibly imagine how awful it is. It seemed to me that I was suffering at the time I was seeing hell.’

    Of another testimony we read:

“She tried to tell us something of the horror of the scene upon which she looked; she declared that she had no language with which to describe it, that it was beyond the power of words to describe the misery of lost souls. She saw an innumerable company of them, weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth, tearing their hair and digging their faces with their nails until the blood ran. The unsaved soldiers who fought in the late war were still engaged in deadly conflict and fought and bled unceasingly. The misery of all was augmented by the torment of demons, multitudes of whom thronged the pit, while hosts of others were driven out by the master demon to bring in the souls of men. They were faithful in the discharge of this duty, and were constantly dragging in their shrieking, terrified victims whom they threw down in the midst of that mass of wretchedness. The most vivid impression made upon the mind of the girl who viewed this horrible scene was that hell was enlarging its borders to make room for the throngs who were trending that way. Constantly the prince of devils urged his co-workers to greater activity and encouraged them to repeat. “The harvest will be great. The harvest will be great!” Lost souls were vainly trying to escape to warn their friends of the depths of misery which await if they refuse the mercy of God.

“This was told to us as a continued story, but was related slowly, with frequent pauses, as the terrible scene once more presented itself to the mind of the young woman. Frequently she cried out in anguish and covered here eyes with her hand as if to blot out her vision. ‘Oh!’ she cried, ‘I cannot even think of it for a long time lest it drive me crazy.’”

Proud and Pleasure-Loving Woman in Hell

In 1848, Marietta Davis, a twenty-five year old woman living in New York, fell into a coma, from which neither family nor doctors could arouse her. She awoke nine days later and related to her family and her minister a detailed vision of heaven and hell.

In her vision, Davis saw a proud and pleasure loving woman tormented in hell. The excerpts of what she saw are detailed below:
As I gazed aghast at these awful things, a spirit approached me and I recognised her. She was someone I had known on earth. On the outside she looked far more brilliant than she had been in the flesh. Her body, face, eyes and hands seemed to have a metallic lustre that changed with every movement and every thought.

“Marietta, we meet again. But,” and she paused and gazed at me, “I know that you will not stay here, as I must do. You can see that I am now a disembodied spirit. Everyone who inwardly denies the Saviour comes here when they die.

“I can see that strange feelings are stirring your heart. I felt the same! When I discovered where I was I looked and wondered. I was bewildered and anxious, but I also experienced something that you have not yet known. I have a deep sorrow inside that this brilliant exterior would love to hide," she went on quickly, “but I must tell you, I must warn you about it.”

She looked at me urgently. “My life on earth suddenly came to an end. As I left the world I travelled very quickly in the direction determined by my strongest desires. Inwardly I had always wanted to be pursued and honoured – to be flattered by everyone. I wanted to follow the perverted desires of my proud, rebellious and pleasure loving heart. I wanted pleasure without restraint, the freedom to fulfill any passion, to do anything I wanted to live in a world where there was no religion, no prayer, no Sunday church and no one to rebuke me when I did wrong. I wanted a place where all my time was spent in fast living, with no one to stop me.

“So I entered the spirit world with these attitudes and went to the place suited to them. I rushed to enjoy the glittering scenes that you can see and was welcomed straight away, for they could see that I was fit for this place. They did not welcome you because they could see that your underlying desires are quite different.

“I had a wonderful reception. They rushed to greet me and embrace me, shouting ‘Welcome! Welcome!’ I was amazed and confused, but nevertheless excited and energised by the atmosphere of the place. I found myself pulsating with a strange and restless power.

“A phosphorescent light was given off by every part of me. It concentrated about my head like a brilliant crown, and reflected on my face, giving it a wild unearthly glow. As I breathed out, my breath became like a robe that wrapped itself around me, making me look just like all of my companions here. I became aware that some strange force was spreading through my brain, absolutely possessing it.

“So I followed my impulses and abandoned myself to all the attractions around me. I set out to satisfy my cravings for pleasure. I partied. I joined the wild and sensuous dancing. I picked the shining fruit. I plunged into the rushing streams and gorged myself with everything that seemed to be delicious and inviting. But when I tasted these things 1 found they were repulsive and caused me more and more pain. The desires I have are so unnatural that the very things I crave for I detest, and the things I delight in torture me. It creates in me a strange addiction. My appetite is dulled, yet my hunger is not satisfied and cannot ever be satisfied.

“I crave for everything I set eyes on, but when I lay hold of these things I feel only disappointment and agony. With every new experience I feel some strange fantasy, hallucination and intoxication. Strange things happen all the time, and these give me more hallucinations and more fears.

“In myself I seem to have become a part of the whole scene here. I cannot stop myself from saying what everyone else is saying. I laugh and philosophise. I scoff, blaspheme and ridicule. Yet my every phrase, no matter how impure, is full of sparkling wit, glowing metaphors and clever persuasion.”

She gestured around her. “The waving trees, the shining fruit, the objects of gold, the moving phantoms, the deceiving waters - all these things present a dazzling picture, but they only mock me. Inwardly I crave to satisfy my hunger and thirst, but my desire creates a tantalising illusion of cool waters that I can never drink, of delicious fruits 1 can never taste, of refreshing air I can never feel, and peaceful sleep I can never enjoy. I am fully aware that these things around me are nothing but delusive fantasies, but they are a controlling power which dominates and confuses my mind with a cruel magic.

“I am continually attracted to evil. I am the slave of perverted and deceptive forces and the evil that controls them. My will is dying, and as it dies so does my hope of mental freedom. Instead I am becoming convinced that I am a fundamental part of this whole revolving fantasy.”

She looked at me, her eyes full of despair, and pointed around her. “This place, curtained off by that dark cloud, is one great sea of perversion and depravity. Here you will find lust and pride, hatred and greed, ambition and strife, love of self: blasphemies and mad partying. All of these things are here, fanned into a raging fire. If some particular evil is not the specialty of one spirit, there is always another to provide it, so that the total effect is the combination of all these evils. This is where I live and I am bound by it.”

She seized me by the arm and directed my attention to the groups of people milling around. “Here you will find those who exploited the poor, employers who robbed workers of their wages, others who put heavy burdens on the weary. Those who followed false religions are here, together with hypocrites, adulterers and murderers. So too are the suicides - those who were not satisfied with their lives and brought them to an end.

“If people only knew about the dark and awful night that they fall into when they die unprepared, they would try to postpone their death rather than hurry it up - no matter how great their troubles. They would act sensibly and improve their lives. Earth," she added, “is a place of testing for everyone.

She forced me to walk along a path off to the side. “Do you think life is full of grief on earth? Well here, no matter where you look, you find many more new reasons for gloom. Is your hope of finding happiness on earth fading? Well, all you will ever know in this place is unceasing, unsatisfied and unholy desire.”

She paused, a look of pain spreading across her face.

“Not only that, but your senses here are infinitely more acute. On earth there are sins that give your conscience a twinge. But here, those same sins penetrate into the very essence of our existence and the pain becomes a part of us. To compound that, the awareness of suffering and the ability to suffer are far greater here than they are on earth."

She stopped in front of me and looked me in the eye.

“Marietta, I feel it is futile to try to describe our deplorable condition. I often wonder, is there no hope? But I know the answer. How can disharmony live in the middle of harmony? When we were in the body we were warned about the consequences of our lifestyle, but we loved our own ways better than those which are good for us. Now we have fallen into this fearful place. We have caused our own sorrow.”

Her face twisted in pain as she reflected.

“God is just. He is good. We know that our suffering is not the result of a vindictive law of our Creator. Marietta, this misery we endure is brought about by our breaking the moral law. We should have followed it and we would have been safe. We would have lived in peace and wholeness.

“But sin!" she rasped. "You parent of endless troubles! You insidious enemy of peace and heaven! Why do mortals love your ways?”

At this point she fixed her eyes, wild with despair, upon me. I shrank from her awful glare and the torture revealed in her face. Turning around I noticed that many more of the hopeless beings had gathered around her, struggling to suppress their true feelings as they listened to her describing their sufferings. I was filled with horror and turned away to try to escape from her.

This seemed to make her grief even worse and she quickly spoke. “No Marietta, don't leave me. Can’t you bear it even for a short time - to see and hear about the things I am suffering? Stay with me, for I have to tell you more.” Her voice became even more urgent.

“You are shocked by these scenes, but let me tell you this. Everything you see around you is only the surface of even deeper woes. Marietta, there are no good and happy beings living with us. Everything is dark. Sometimes we dare to hope for redemption, still remembering the story of Redeeming Love. We ask the question: can that love penetrate this place of gloom and death? Is there any hope that we might be set free from these desires and urges that bind us like chains? Will we ever be released from these passions that burn like wildfire in this wretched world?”

Overcome by her feelings she began to sob and she did not speak to me again.
Marietta Davis’ vision was recorded in a book entitled Scenes Beyond the Grave. The excerpts above are from a plain English rewrite of book produced by Dennis and Nolene Prince.
